RÉSUMÉ

Contexte

ABSTRACT

Background. Communication is a fundamental dimension of the teaching-learning process; in Moroccan higher education, it occupies a central place that the scientific literature has only begun to document systematically, against a backdrop of persistent massification and recent legislative reform. Objectives: This article aims to analyse, from an explicit theoretical framework, communicative practices in Moroccan universities, to identify their institutional and pedagogical barriers, and to examine the perspectives opened by digital transformation and by Law No. 59.24 on higher education, scientific research, and innovation. Methods. A critical, analytical, narrative and deductive synthesis of the indexed scientific literature and of French-language, Moroccan and international institutional and governmental documentation (1949–2026), grounded in systemic and socioconstructivist frameworks and guided by methodological transparency principles applicable to narrative reviews. Only sources indexed in recognised bibliographic databases and primary governmental or international-organisation sources were retained; this approach is distinct from new empirical data collection. Results. The analysis reveals a persistent tension between a transmission-based model still dominant in high-enrolment programmes, whose cognitive limitations are corroborated by international evidence on active learning, and the requirements of interactive pedagogy. It identifies linguistic heterogeneity, insufficient communicative training among faculty, and massification as major structural barriers. It shows that digital technologies diversify communicative modalities while revealing access inequalities empirically documented in the Moroccan university context. It situates Law No. 59.24, supported in part by an international financing programme dedicated to transforming higher education, as a promising yet contested reform framework. Interpretation. Transforming communicative practices cannot result from institutional injunctions alone; it requires combined investment in faculty training, material learning conditions, and a pedagogical culture that recognises communicative competence as a central dimension of the academic profession.
Keywords: pedagogical communication; higher education; Morocco; didactic interaction; active learning; digital technologies; educational reform; Law No. 59.24.
